Misty Mountains Realty was formed in 1990. The company focus during previous ownership was geared towards single family residential sales. The company now has a wider spectrum, opening its doors to property management in conjunction with real estate sales. The firm has grown exponentially and has an unrivaled reputation in the industry. Misty Mountains Realty manages & sells all real estate investments ranging from single family homes, multi-family projects, commercial centers. Misty Mountains Realty is a collaboration of individuals creating a knowledgeable and diverse team.

Bret VanLant Bret VanLant (Broker/Notary/Owner) was born and raised in Whatcom County. Bret is no stranger to hard work, as he was an integral part of his families dairy farm operations. Bret began his real estate career at the site level of a twenty-five million dollar multi-family project in Bellingham. Bret soon began moving up the ranks, and worked as a portfolio manager supervising commercial centers, offices, and a residential portfolio throughout the state, while working for Whatcom County's largest management firm. Bret's expertise lays in budgetary planning and site level startups beginning during the construction phase. He has overseen the startup of many prestigious Whatcom County shopping centers and luxury apartments. Bret holds his Washington State Real Estate Salespersons license, and has been involved in real estate for over 12 years. Bret is the President of the Mt. Baker Chamber of Commerce.

Tyrel Jackson Tyrel Jackson (Designated Broker/Notary) is a Washington State native, beginning his career in restaurant management before proceeding to real estate. Tyrel has most recently worked for California's largest property management company with over 50,000 residential units. Tyrel was overseeing a ten million dollar renovation of a prestigious Seattle suburb multi-family project owned by two publicly traded companies. Prior to that Tyrel worked for one of Whatcom County's largest property management companies, growing their residential portfolio; positioning them for a recent acquisition of a rival management firm. Tyrel holds his Washington State Real Estate Brokers license, and has been involved in real estate for over 15 years. His expertise is in value-added real estate opportunities. Tyrel has served on the board of directors for the local Chamber of Commerce and other non-profit organizations. 
Shanna Starbuck Shanna Starbuck (Relations Manager/Broker) comes to us a fourth generation Bellingham native. After receiving her degree from BTC, she began working as a restaurant manager, then took time to raise her family. After rejoinging the work force, Shanna has obtained her Washington State Real Estate Brokers License and has chosen to make Misty Mountains Realty her new home. Shanna has become an integral part of our team and manages day to day operations of the firm. You can expect to see Shanna's smiling face when you first walk into our Maple Falls office. In her spare time, she volunteers for her daughter's school PTA, aides her eldest in studies for her college degree, and takes care of her two dogs Clover and Pepperjack.

Serina Boisjolie | Administrative Assistant Serina Boisjolie (Managing Director/Broker) is a Washington native, born and raised in Seattle, WA. In 2010 she received her Bachelor’s Degree in Interior Design with a concentration in Green Sustainable Design. Before joining Misty Mountains Realty, she worked as an Interior Designer for various Developers and Interior Design firms in Seattle. This experience has given her the ability to see potential in any property and create the perfect space for occupants while minimizing our environmental impact whenever possible. In her free time, she volunteers as the VP of Events for IDCW where she coordinates events supporting the legislative process to license Interior Designers in the state of Washington. She also likes to take advantage of the beautiful scenery in Whatcom County with her husband, Ben and dog, Roscoe.
April MilesApril Miles (Marketing Director/Broker) was born and raised in Whatcom County, her family here since the early 1900's.  April has been working in marketing and sales for about 20 years with an emphasis on print media, previously working for the Bellingham Herald and most recently returning to the work force after her two sons were in school full time, April explored the market for opportunities and joined a publishing firm that produced an international trade publication working with musicians,  artists and authors, helping them market themselves, businesses and products.  April is currently a member of the business network group BNI by the Bay, Bellingham Chapter and has spent the last 16 years volunteering at her son's school, helping put on the Silver Lake Invitational. April has experience building homes, acting as the general contractor. In her spare time, April prefers to be outdoors backpacking, kayaking, skiing or fishing.
Brian Spencer Brian Spencer (Broker/Notary) is a Western Washington native. He has more than a decade of retail management and customer service experience, ranging from small, family businesses to corporate positions, as well extensive non-profit and IT Systems experience. Brian studied at the College of Business and Economics at Western Washington University from '04-'09. He joined us at Misty Mountains Realty in 2012. He is a licensed Washington State Real Estate Broker, licensed Notary Public. Outside of real estate, Brian continues to serve on several community boards, as well as volunteer and work, for several Whatcom County non-profit groups. Buyers, sellers and owners alike will find that Brian has the professional skills and community connections they’re looking for.

Joel Huffaker Joel Huffaker (Broker/Notary) is a native of Washington State and he has lived in Whatcom County since 2005. Joel comes to us with a bachelor’s degree in Financial Economics from Western Washington University and he is a licensed Washington State Real Estate Broker. His professional experience has focused on financial institutions and real estate lending, and he brings that know-how to the clients he assists at Misty Mountains. Away from work, Joel can be found spending time with his friends and family. He is also an avid outdoorsman who enjoys bicycling and sailing.

Jack Hovenier Jack Hovenier (Broker) is a 40-year resident of Whatcom County. Jack has been involved in local real estate since 1997 and is very knowledgeable about single family homes, investment property and commercial, industrial and subdivision requirements in Whatcom County. He attended WWU and started his first company in 1991 at Bellis Fair Mall. He is the founder of United Wholesale Gumball and Lightwear. He has appeared many times as a sales person on QVC and has traveled around the world as a cruise ship lecturer. Jack currently serves as the chairperson of the Whatcom County Behavioral Health Revenue Advisory Committee and he has served many years on the Whatcom County Substance Abuse Advisory Board. In his spare time he enjoys writing, reading and spending time with his son.

Becki Lawson Becki Lawson (Comptroller/Notary) has spent the majority of her adult life sampling the job market. She has worked in the food and service industry for over 30 years including management, has been a corporate flight attendant on private corporate jets, has owned five businesses, has been an executive assistant to high level executives, and has worked in the Fertility industry as an Embryology assistant/Lab tech. Her degree is in Zoology with a minor in Chemistry (pre-med) but she has created her career in accounting. When not working, you can find Becki on the water fishing, on the court playing competitive volleyball or enjoying time with one of her 5 pets (Cat, Dog, Goffin Cockatoo, Rosy Boa, and 2 Sugar Gliders) or Chris, her significant other.

Richard Banel Richard Banel (General Counsel/Managing Broker/Notary) spent his childhood in Kirkland and later lived on Camano Island for 15 years. He is a graduate of the University of Washington and later received his Law Degree from Seattle University School of Law. Associated with both large and small firms during his career, he also spent many years associated with a large international non-profit. In 2004, the hiking and skiing attracted him to Whatcom County where he resides with his wife. Currently in solo practice focused on property transactions and development, and probate and estates, he is a member in good standing of the Washington State Bar Association and the District of Columbia Bar.
Mariya Farmagey
Mariya Farmagey (Broker) is a long term resident of the Columbia Valley. Mariya is a graduate of Western Washington University obtaining her bachelor's degree in Financial Economics with a minor in Accounting, graduating Cum Laude. Mariya has a passion for real estate. She is an active real estate investor. Mariya has aided in the Columbia Valley Rejuvenation. Mariya is tri-lingual, fluently speaking Russian, Ukranian, and English. When not focusing on her passion for real estate, Mariya spends time with with husband and son.
Bill Lohse | BrokerBill Lohse (Broker) has lived in Bellingham for most of his life. He completed his undergraduate education at the University of Washington in 2006, where he studied History and Mathematics. After graduating, he moved back to Bellingham and started working with a real estate investment company, specializing in residential and commercial property flipping. He became a real estate agent in 2011 with the hope of using his unique experience to help others achieve success in real estate investment. In addition to practicing real estate, he co-owns the Swillery Whiskey Bar in downtown Bellingham and is an active participant in the local music and local art communities.

Sara HansenSara Hansen (Broker) has lived all over the west coast and has a rich and diverse work experience. Early on she worked as a bicycle mechanic, did commercial fishing and geophysical sampling, then found Nursing. As an RN she loved her work in both labor and delivery and then Hospice. After an accident a slower pace was required and she moved to Bellingham 13 years ago. She loves the area! She loves continuing to grow and learn and studied/worked in Graphic Design for 10 years and now she's fulfilling a lifelong passion for homes and land in real estate. Sara brings the same attitude she brought in nursing. She is here to educate and support your process of finding what is right for YOU.
